Quality in literature teaching (QuaLITy)

The QuaLITy project aims to gain empirical insights into the practice of everyday literature lessons as they take place under authentic conditions without targeted external influence. It draws on preliminary work from the KoALa project and from Florian Hesse’s completed doctoral project. From autumn 2022 to summer 2025, we videotaped a total of nine lesson series on Wolfgang Herrndorf’s „Tschick“ (8th grade, Gymnasium). From each series, three lessons were filmed (introductory, middle, and final lessons; N = 27). In addition, we conducted interviews with the nine teachers and used student questionnaires. Two additional complete datasets are available for another school reading (N = 6 hours). Data analysis is currently underway. We are cooperating with Dr Alexander Naumann, who currently holds the Chair of Educational Data Science at TU Dortmund University.
